Description
Beethoven’s spectacular ‘Archduke’ trio and Schubert’s Quartettsatz are rightly acclaimed as masterworks of the chamber music genre, but 20th century Polish composer Grazyna Bacewicz’s Piano Quintet is a forgotten gem, but equally deserving of inclusion here. This atmospheric work contains several rhythmic themes, and may well have been inspired by Polish folk dances. Beethoven’s Archduke trio was written in 1811, the same year as his monumental Seventh Symphony, and sharing much of its virtuosic vitality.
