World Premiere at the Wigmore Hall

Wednesday 9 October 2024

Wigmore Hall – 3 January 2025, 7.30pm

Steven MackeyAs longstanding supporters of the Festival will know, new music and commissions have always held an important place in Anthony and Richard’s rich festival programming. We are therefore delighted to announce that, with thanks to two very generous legacies left to the Festival, we have embarked on a trilogy of commissions, working with exciting composers to add to the Festival’s contribution to the chamber music canon.

The first piece has been commissioned from celebrated composer Steven Mackey (a former Peasmarsh-ian that many of you may remember). Steven has written a quintet for string quartet and electric guitar entitled The Ancestors: ballet in eight tableaux, which Anthony and Richard, with Steven, will premiere at the Wigmore Hall on 3 January 2025, joined also by violinist Grace Park and violist Hélène Clément.

In a characteristically Peasmarsh-y programme that brings a little slice of East Sussex to the Wigmore Hall stage, the Mackey will be framed by Beethoven’s Serenade for String Trio and Dvořák’s piano quintet No. 2, for which Anthony, Richard, Grace and Hélène will be joined by pianist Aleksandar Madžar. For further details about the concert, please visit the page for the concert on the Wigmore Hall’s website.
